This year’s theme

The theme is revealed in April.

More details about Camp 2027 will be shared later so keep an eye on our social media pages for updates.

What is Compass Camp

Put it all together and the result is Compass Camps.

Loads of young people. One incredible book (the Bible). Deep study. Much crazy fun. Awesome truth. Plenty of food. Passionate leaders. Stretching questions. Great friendships!

Put it all together and the result is COMPASS CAMPS: the Bible-Centred Summer Camp for 11 to 17 year olds.

The fun packed week combines solid Bible teaching and outdoor adventure sports. Each day begins with a Bible teaching meeting, learning together as we open up God’s Word. The series is structured to lead us through a book or passage to learn more about God and Jesus Christ.

At camp a variety of activities are on offer all led by qualified experts. One day you might be climbing the rock face of the surrounding mountains, the next scrabbling up a flowing river only to plunge back down into the pools of water! At Windermere School we enjoy the full facilities including dining area, kitchen, showers, as well as amazing outdoor space for camping, sports and games. What’s more, Lake Windermere is just a stone’s throw away, and there is amazing views across the fells right outside your tent! Young people sleep under canvas in groups of 4-6 of a similar age. Each tent has an adult leader.

Check out the links in the What’s Camp like? menu for more information on the activities and teaching that Camp offers.

Activities

All led by qualified experts.

One day you might be climbing the rock face of the surrounding mountains, the next scrabbling up a flowing river only to plunge back down into the pools of water!

This year our activities are rock climbing, ghyll scrambling, canoeing and a hill walk. We will have a full day between the water sports.

Gorge Scrambling

Up the river, through the pools, back down again. Wet through, every time.

Climbing & abseiling

Real rock faces on the surrounding crags, roped and instructor-led.

Canoeing

One of the water sports on the programme this year.

Mountain days

A proper walk with a proper view at the top.

Kit list

Everything you need to bring.

You are probably well aware that the weather in the Lake District can be mixed. We pray for fine weather but please ensure you are prepared for wet and dry, hot and cold conditions. Remember also that at night under canvas it can be cold, sometimes more so when it’s clear, so hot sunny days can mean cold nights. A good sleeping bag is essential but also be prepared to layer up at night.

We do have a spin drier so will endeavour to dry equipment between activities but cannot guarantee that everything will be dry in time for the next activity, so bring two sets or be prepared to re-wear the damp clothes — remember you’ll be getting wet again anyway!

We do have a limited amount of spare equipment – walking boots, waterproofs, rucksacks etc. Please let us know if you’re not able to find the equipment you need and we can check the camp spares kit.

General items

  • Sleeping bag
  • Fleece blanket (recommended)
  • Bed; safari-type, air bed, three inch foam sponge or camping mat
  • Pillow
  • Waterproofs; cagoule jacket and trousers
  • Warm jacket e.g. anorak or fleece
  • Woolly hat or balaclava
  • Wellington boots (recommended)
  • Trainers
  • Flipflops/shoes for crossing the field
  • Rucksack – big enough for water, lunch and waterproofs
  • Swimming kit and bath towel
  • Wash kit, towel
  • Nightwear
  • Bible, notebook and pen
  • Torch and spare batteries
  • Lunch box and sturdy drinks bottle (sandwich bags provided)
  • Several plastic bags for packing wet or dirty clothes
  • A complete change of clothes in a labelled waterproof bag for emergency use
  • Any necessary medication (to be handed in to leaders)
  • Sun cream

Walking & climbing kit

  • Day rucksack with a waterproof liner e.g. bin liner
  • Walking boots with top ankle support – these must be worn for all hill walking
  • Thick socks
  • Warm jumpers
  • Warm trousers. Jeans or similar heavy cotton trousers are unsuitable. When wet they cling to the legs and cause rapid heat loss which can be very dangerous.

    Watersports kit

    Ghyll scrambling, canoeing

    • Old pair of trainers or canvas shoes (they will get wet!) Slip-on wet shoes are NOT suitable as they are easily pulled off by the strong river currents.
    • Old pair of long shorts
    • Spare set of dry clothing
    • Swimming things and towel
    • Windproof top e.g. cagoule

Please be advised: We will do everything we can to prevent lost property whilst on camp but once camp has ended we cannot store items, therefore must dispose of all ‘unclaimed’ items. We recommend name labels where possible.

Mobile phones and mp3 players etc. are brought at the owner’s risk. The centre car park is used by the public and part of the centre is open so valuable items should never be left unattended in the centre or in tents.

    Booking

    Places fill up very quickly.

Bookings will open in early 2027. Camp is usually oversubscribed so we are taking Expression of Interest and will initially take bookings from those on that list.
